Tamesis Dock – the Boat that Rocked

Tamesis Dock

On a gripping Deadline Day where I remain in a constant state of vegetation on the sofa, living in hope of Daniel Levy pulling off a masterstroke for Spurs, I cast my mind back to yesterday evening when I checked out one of the more unique pubs in London. A converted Dutch barge, Tamesis Dock is about as close to a beachside bar as you’ll get to in the capital, commanding gorgeous views of not the sea but the Thames and Houses of Parliament.

Inside, Tamesis Dock is surprisingly spacious; a mismatch of leather sofas, dainty wooden furniture, intimate booths and even an egg chair offer a plethora of seating amidst the warm glow of dimmed lighting and heaters that keep it snug and warm during the winter months. A selection of the less fist-pumping chart tunes play softly, certainly not intrusively, whilst an amalgamation of London society – from the indie youths to the suit clad bankers – enjoy an array of draught beers including Grolsch, Bitburger and Guinness amongst others. Tamesis Dock creates a friendly atmosphere, a spot perfect for a few drinks and a lot of laughs with some friends.

As is expected of a top notch pub, delicious grub is on hand at the Dock; their menu largely consists of homemade dishes, ranging from fish & chips to wraps and salads. Smaller nibbles and platters to share are also available such as cheese boards and nachos.

However, it’s not always so peaceful aboard the floating pub. Tamesis Dock supports fun-loving Jazz Tuesdays most weeks, and when it comes to Fridays and Saturdays, the boat is more often than not rocking with live performances from various bands and a packed out crowd.

Open all year round, summer is arguably Tamesis’ time to shine as its top deck becomes one of London’s go to places for stunning views, refreshing cocktails and gorgeous rays. Home to some crazy boat parties too, you can be forgiven for thinking you’re on a lads trip Ibiza!
